Quebec City is more than stone walls and history lessons. After dark, the capital reveals another side: Saint-Roch brews its own beer and hosts indie and alternative acts, Saint-Jean-Baptiste keeps its terrasses alive through the depths of winter, and Grande Allée stays open until 3 a.m. Here's where to spend a real night out in Quebec City — beyond the tourist trail.
The Neighbourhoods
Saint-Roch — Where Locals Go
Saint-Roch is the neighbourhood of choice for creatives, young professionals, and anyone who wants to avoid tourist crowds. Rue Saint-Joseph Est packs bars, microbreweries, and small music venues into a few hundred walkable metres. It also tops our list in the Quebec City neighbourhood guide.
Saint-Jean-Baptiste — Bohemian and Inclusive
Saint-Jean-Baptiste revolves around Rue Saint-Jean, both inside and outside the old fortifications. The vibe is bohemian, LGBTQ-inclusive, and unmistakably local. Terrasses fill up at the first sign of warm weather and bars stay lively well into winter.
Grande Allée — For Dancing Late
Grande Allée is the main address for festive nightlife. More tourist-facing than Saint-Roch, it remains the go-to for late-night dancing and a proper night out.
Limoilou — The Up-and-Coming One
Limoilou, particularly around 3e Avenue, is building a dynamic scene of independent bars and cafés. The neighbourhood draws a young, local crowd and gains new venues every year.
Live Music
L'Anti Bar & Spectacles
Quebec City's essential alternative music venue. Cellar-style and intimate, with a demanding program spanning rock, metal, punk, indie, and experimental music. Local acts and international touring bands share the same stage.
Le Scanner
Located on Rue Saint-Vallier Est in Saint-Roch, Le Scanner programs French chanson, indie, and acoustic rock. Acoustic Tuesdays have become a neighbourhood institution.
L'Impérial Bell
A converted cinema turned concert hall, L'Impérial Bell hosts jazz, world music, and touring indie acts in a well-loved mid-size venue with a period balcony.

La Barberie
Quebec's first brewery cooperative, La Barberie is based in Saint-Roch. It offers a beer garden terrace in summer and a rotating selection of craft beers year-round.
La Korrigane
A women-owned craft brewery, La Korrigane is known for its creative beers and quality food. Worth visiting for both.
Le Sacrilège
A Saint-Jean-Baptiste institution, Le Sacrilège is best known for its hidden garden terrace, enclosed by stone walls and mature trees.
jjacques
A low-key cocktail bar with a speakeasy feel — the ideal place to start the evening with a well-crafted drink before moving on to live music or late-night venues. Ranked #11 on Canada's 100 Best Bars 2026.
Bar Le Vox
Retro and unpretentious, Le Vox is appreciated for its arcade games and relaxed atmosphere.
Dagobert
A Grande Allée fixture for over 40 years, Dagobert spans several floors with themed nights and a festive atmosphere that runs late into the night.
Comedy
Saint-Jean Comédie Club
Quebec City's first permanent comedy club, with a regular lineup of emerging and established comedians in an intimate lounge setting.
Ninkasi Comédie Club
Located at La Ninkasi bar, this club runs stand-up shows, open-mic nights, and regular weeknight events.
Terrasses & Rooftops (Summer)
Éléa at Fairmont Le Château Frontenac
Housed within the Château Frontenac, Éléa serves cocktails with views over the rooftops of Old Quebec. Open in summer only.
Festivals & Events
Festival d'été de Québec (FEQ)
One of the largest music festivals in North America, FEQ features both ticketed and free stages spread across the city.
Festibière de Québec
A major craft beer event bringing together breweries, cider makers, and local food producers.
Quebec Winter Carnival (Winter)
Every February, the Winter Carnival transforms the city with outdoor installations, pop-up ice bars, and a unique winter atmosphere.
Good to know: The Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec is free on Thursday evenings from 5–9 PM — a great way to start the evening before heading out.
